Netflix released the new trailer for their third online-streaming Marvel series. Luke Cage joins Jessica Jones and Daredevil on Netflix September 30. For those of you who don’t know, we first meet Luke Cage in the show, Jessica Jones. The show gives us a first look at this character and what his powers are. Also joining Luke Cage as a love interest based on the comics is Rosario Dawson, who plays the night nurse Claire Temple in Daredevil. Each show is connected and preparing itself for when these heroes join Iron Fist (2017) in The Defenders .
Harlem has a new defender. The trailer starts off by saving Claire Temple by colliding with a SUV. Marvel fans also get an insight into Cage’s origins. “I was put in some tank like an exotic fish…came out with abilities,” he says. Cage is super-strong and has unbreakable skin that allows him to be bulletproof. Like every superhero we encounter, they just want to live ordinary lives but end up using their powers to help others.
“You might be bulletproof, but Harlem ain’t, “a woman warns him. Luke takes on the city’s villains to protect Harlem. Viewers can also catch some symbolism to the “Black Lives Matter” movement. In the trailer, you see Cage put his hoodie up and walks through a storm of bullets. Show-runner Cheo Coker declared, “The world is ready for a bulletproof black man.”
Luke Cage premieres on Netflix on September 30th.
