Every year, the NBA season is filled with excitement that makes you want to watch almost every game. In 2016, we witnessed arguably the greatest regular season of all time, and two teams come back from a 3-1 deficit late in the playoffs. With more highlights than the previous season before that, it’s fair to say that last year’s season was nothing less than spectacular. This year is looking to not be just as good as last years- but better. This is what I am looking forward to for this upcoming NBA season.
This year’s NBA draft class was average besides two picks, Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram. Both are playing for teams that did poorly last year; they were drafted in an attempt to turn the team around from their drought. I’m excited to see how Ben Simmons copes with the long struggle of the Philadelphia 76ers after their 10-72 season last year. Ingram joins the Los Angeles Lakers, fresh off losing their franchise god, Kobe Bryant. These two draft picks are going to be exhilarating to watch as they attempt to fix their respective team’s reputation from the last couple of seasons.
With the salary cap increasing, multiple basketball icons have switched teams and are playing with an entirely new roster. The list goes on for days, but the two teams that I’m interested in viewing are the New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls. The Knicks acquired Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Brandon Jennings and Courtney Lee this offseason. Their starting five now seems to be a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference, and could possibly be a contender for one of the spots in the playoffs. I’m curious to how this team will gel together and fight for one of the better records in the Eastern Conference. The Chicago Bulls is my second team to pay attention to in the East. After trading away Rose, they had a plan to fill up the point guard position- they added Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade. Even though on paper this team may not sound like a huge force, I am curious to see how Rondo will do as the primary playmaker on this team. If he’s able to play well, then his team will be a force in the division.
I’m looking forward to the NBA Finals this year as well. Most people’s prediction for the contenders this year will look like a rematch of the previous two years, the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Golden State Warriors. Because of the team that the Warriors assembled with Kevin Durant, this is arguably one of the greatest teams in the history of the NBA. I am looking forward to watching LeBron James take on this team, and possibly beating them and defending his crown. I’m not necessarily saying that it’s very likely for such a thing to happen, however, being a diehard LeBron fan, it would be satisfying to see him pull off the impossible.
This year has a lot in store for you loyal NBA fans. Get ready to witness greatness!
