Jennifer Lopez teams up with HBO to produce and star in a yet untitled TV film about the late infamous drug lord, Griselda Blanco. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The film, which is in development, focuses on the rise and fall of Blanco, the notorious drug lord known as “The Cocaine Godmother” who revolutionized the U.S. drug trade during the 1970s and 1980s and became the most powerful female cartel member of all time.”
She allegedly murdered her first two husbands, and was said to push 300 kilos of cocaine a month. Blanco was arrested in 1985 and sentenced to nearly 20 years in a U.S. prison before being deported to Medellín, Colombia. She was killed in Colombia in September 2012 in a drive-by shooting.
JLo also takes on a dark role in NBC‘s Shades of Blue which she also executive produces. Alongside HBO, her production company Nuyorican Productions will team up to produce the TV film. In a recent statement, Jennifer said, “I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years. The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.” We can expect JLo to deliver an outstanding performance to this dark role as she is no stranger to taking on strong female roles in the past.
