The CW has announced that The Flash and Supergirl will be having more crossover episodes, this time resulting in a long-awaited musical event, reports EW.
Musical episodes of television series have become extremely popular, especially after the famous Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode titled “Once More With Feeling.” For the CW shows, Executive Producer Greg Berlanti said that “there’s going to be a musical pair of episodes in the back half of the year between Supergirl and Flash.” He also made the following comment:
“Some of you may know my own personal love of musicals and actors who have been in them, and we have a number of people who can sing across all the shows who will be making some very exciting appearances in the back half of the year.”
There will be no lacking of talent in the cast: Both Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist had been in the show Glee, broadcasting their performance skills, which we had also seen in the episode “Crazy for You” where Caitlin drags Barry into doing karaoke. Not only that, but Supergirl co-star Jeremy Jordan, who plays Winn Schott, is a Broadway performer, The Flash’s Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon, sings under the name Tha Los, and one of Jesse L. Martin’s, who plays Joe West, most known roles is playing Collins in the film musical RENT. Andy Mientus, who had played Hartley Rathaway/Pied Piper in a couple episodes of The Flash is also a Broadway performer, though there is no information on if he will be brought back for the musical event.
It has been reported that the songs will “mostly” be preexisting ones—so far. Whether it will be the result of a meta-human villain’s influence or explained in another way, fans will just have to wait and see if this event will live up to expectations.
