“I believe the children are our future/Teach them well and let them lead the way/Show them all the beauty they possess inside/Give them a sense of pride to make it easier/Let the children’s laughter remind us of how we used to be.”
These are the powerful lyrics that the late-great Whitney Houston released in 1986 for the song, “The Greatest Love of All” and she couldn’t be more right as the children are definitely our FUTURE! This is something that the Atlanta Speech School practices and looks to achieve with their students.
Their logo which is entitled, “Helping each person develop his or her full potential through language and literacy” is what the school thrives on. Each child is special and the school feels that if a child is spoken too and interacted with in a correct manner, the long term results will not only be rewarding but successful for the student in ensuring they grow up to be model citizens and have a drive to be anything they want to be.
Per the Huffington Post, the school released a video called “Every Opportunity” which shows how adult interactions can affect a child’s education and/or learning experiences within and outside of the classroom. The video is narrated by a young student who gives his perspective on what his day is like when the interactions from adults are “negatively” received. While his day started out with a good mood, he easily becomes discouraged as the day unfolds due to the “responses” he received from his teacher, cafeteria lady and the principal.
The Atlanta Speech School stated:
“The video demonstrat
es how small changes in adult behavior, both inside and outside of the classroom, can enhance a child’s approach and her ability to learn.”
The video was very powerful indeed as it goes into the life of how children feel when they receive negative feedback and/or positive feedback. Every child wants to know that they are being accepted, loved and guided in the right direction. Whether you have have kids or not, our actions really do make a difference in a child’s life after all. They really are our future and are looking up to us to help lead the way.
