T-Pain and Shonte Renee act out some risque’ scenes in this Big Oomp Records video premiere of “Rock With You.” Shonte’s recent mixtape release, Color Me Bad (Red), highlights the seductive Atlanta-based songstress with a colorful collection of cover songs, including this modern take on a Bobby Brown classic. Heavily influenced by Janet Jackson throughout her career, Shonte channeled her idol on the mixtape’s cover, which is a remix of Jackson’s infamous topless Rolling Stone cover.
Shonte Renee’s appeal might begin with her pinup girl looks and charismatic personality, but it’s her vocal talent that leaves a lasting impression. It was this charm and mic skills that caught the attention of Grammy-winning DJ and producer, DJ Montay. “Montay saw a video of me singing TI and Pink’s ‘Guns and Roses’ A Capella and loved it,” recalls Shonte. “He immediately signed me to Oomp Camp Records and it’s been nothing but forward progression ever since.”
In addition to being sexually expressive, she also pushes boundaries with her sound, preferring to blend genres such as Pop, Rock, R&B and Hip Hop. Her lyrics echo her fearless persona touching on personal subject matter that contains both emotion and heart, as well as challenges and surprises – reminiscent of Toni Braxton, another of Shonte’s favorite artists. With brains, beauty and body, this golden-voiced singer is representing the new wave of artists coming from Oomp Camp, a multi-platinum label which at its peak controlled much of the entertainment scene in the south.
