For as long as there was time, women have played an intricate role in our society and this goes beyond becoming just mothers, we are carpenters; electricians; plumber’s; executives; leaders; role models and CEO’s of major companies, although we don’t get the recognition that we duly deserve – Women are still making their imprints on the world and making our voices be heard in many ways through more ways and avenues than others expect us too.
Maia Weinstock, deputy editor of MIT News and “LEGO tinkerer” proposed the idea of a new Lego set that will honor and celebrate the women of NASA; according to the Huffington Post the set would come with five figurines representing NASA pioneers:
Margaret Hamilton, Computer Scientist.
Katherine Johnson, Mathmetician and Space Scientist..
Nancy Grace Roman, Astronomer.
Mae Jemison, Astronaut, Physician, Entrepreneur – First African American woman in space.
Sally Ride, Astronaut, Physicist & Educator.
Per the post, over 40 American women have traveled through space while many others worked as cosmonauts, analysts, researchers and engineers; pretty amazing huh? – Usually when we hear about the adventures in Space, the first thing we think about are men such as Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin; making a woman’s name a far cry from accomplishing such greatness.
While women have played vital roles throughout the history of the space program…their contributions are either unknown and/or underappreciated; Weinstocks proposal to NASA received about 3,000 supporters as of Monday Morning; If a project has 10,000 supporters the proposal can be sent in for official review. To show it’s support of the idea NASA tweeted this to their twitter account:

LEGO has been adding more and more female characters to their many play-sets as of right now there are proposals for an Amelia Earhart and Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) sets as well, all just waiting to get the mass amount of supporters it needs in order to finally take women off the back-burner and put us up front and center where we have always belonged from the beginning of time.
