These past 48 hours in America has been a wild rollercoaster ride. The world witnessed two graphic cop killings on African-Americans basically on Instagram. First Alton Sterling life was taken by a Baton Rouge, La. police and in less than 24 hours, Philando Castile killed by a Falcon Heights, Minn police.
Many artists in the hip-hop community has voiced their opinions on this global matter, but Houston’s own Slim Thug was the first to put his frustration in a song. His new song “IDKY” featuring another Houstonian Go Dj Xo gets right to the point.
As soon as Slim jumps on his verse, he raps:
“I was born and raised in the USA / Where we see cops killing blacks on the news every day / And they do it like it’s okay, like they know they gon’ get away / To stop myself from thinking reckless I just ignore it and pray.”
This song that will be featured on Slim’s upcoming album, Hogg Life 4: American King, which will hit stores on August 4, was recorded before the two shootings had happened but hadn’t release it yet. But in a time like this, this was perfect timing.
Thug said,”I remember thinking in the last few weeks this song might be too late cause it’s been a minute since the last one and look here we go again twice in less than 24hrs … #BlackLivesMatter.”
