Kanye West took to Twitter yesterday to rant about the beef that has been brewing amongst music streaming services Apple Music and Tidal.
From his tweets, it seemed very apparent that the rapper had just about had enough of the two platforms going head to head. He started off with a very bold statement stating that the beef between Apple and Tidal was ‘f***ing up the music game.’ To resolve the issue, he suggested that the parties involved should sit down together in a meeting to come to an agreement. Kanye even named the people who should be involved in this which included Drake, Jay Z, Scooter Braun, Apple CEO Tim Cooke, Jimmy Iovine, Larry Jackson, and of course himself.
What will come as a shock to many is that Kanye tweeted his ultimate solution to the Apple/Tidal beef, which was that Apple buyout Tidal. West has been backing his good friend Jay Z as he’s endeavoured to take on Apple Music with Tidal, suggesting the struggle with Hov’s investment is definitely real.
Tidal has certainly been struggling against Apple Music and Spotify. In March this year, The New York Times reported that Tidal had reached a the 3 million mark with subscribers after seeing a surge from the release of Beyonce’s LEMONADE being exclusively released through the platform. At that point, Spotify was sitting at the top with 30 million subscribers, whilst Apple Music said it had 13 million. Kanye has revealed that a buyout could well be likely as he told the world that music distribution seems to be suffering in his opinion as the services have continued to fiercely compete against each other.
