Fans of Lil Wayne will be delighted that his celebrity has finally reached tribute status. Just yesterday via OVO Sound Radio, Canadian-born rapper, Jazz Cartier, dropped his single, “Lil Wayne,” in honor of the titular artist.
The song greets us with a short clip from The Carter Documentary where Wayne speaks of his indescribable love for rap. The sound bite is a perfect introduction to Cartier’s homage to the rapper as he then breaks into his incredibly catchy hook:
“Lil Wayne, Lil Wayne, diamonds on my neck going bling bling,” Jazz Cartier raps.
The three minute track is smooth and cool as Cartier delivers his ever creative verses with perfect timing. The single was produced by Lantz, who also helped build Cartier’s last mixtape, Marauding in Paradise — a grittier offshoot of fellow Toronto rapper, Drake’s, The Six. Its clear in “Lil Wayne” that their creative collaboration is still going strong.
