If you’re like me, you’re fresh out of grad school, settling into a world with complete responsibility. Absolute independence. Most likely, you’re finding financial corners to cut at every turn. One thing that I’ve particularly found helpful is my Google Chromecast.
The Chromecast is a small device that plugs into your television. You do need a smartphone to activate it, but by downloading the app you automatically sync up your phone or computer to your TV. What does this mean? It means that you can literally watch anything on your phone and have it projected to your television. Netflix? Hulu? HBO? You name it, any video you’re watching from your phone or computer will automatically sync and you can watch it on your TV as though you have cable. As someone who is providing completely for herself, I highly recommend this small device to movie and TV lovers everywhere.
When I first moved into my apartment there was no cable set up. My landlord offered to put it in for me, but since I’d be paying for it myself I decided to just stick to the internet. I had subscriptions to all of the major streaming sites, so I figured watching from my Macbook Air wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. However, there were days I just wanted to snuggle up on my couch and not worry about tilting my screen so I could better see Jon Snow‘s face. I searched my options, and went out to buy the Google Chromecast that night.
That was the best $35 I’ve ever spent. Since then I have enjoyed seamless streaming from every website I could imagine, and some I didn’t even consider! There were shows from the 90’s, that I could only find on Youtube. I saw the little Chromecast icon at the top of the page, tapped it, and was suddenly transported into my childhood on my widescreen TV. The same goes for any type of music video that I could find on the internet, with a single tap it was projected in front of me.
This was truly one of the best items I have ever purchased, and I have recommended it to my close friends who are in the same situation I’m in. If you’re a movie lover like me, you’ll want to invest in this small but amazing device.
