The South Florida underground rap scene has been blowing up and well isn’t so underground anymore. A new guard of emcees has emerged with the likes of Denzel Curry, Kodak Black, Pouya, Sylvan LaCue, XXX Tencion, Swaghollywood and more. With Denzel Curry and Kodak Black making the XXL 2016 freshman cover they could end up opening the flood gates for other Florida artists to break out to the mainstream. South Florida along with Milwaukee are the next two cities in line to breakout to see a flux of talent stemming from. Their rise could possibly be reminiscent of Chicago and Atlanta’s and could give us some solid music from a variety of artists in the upcoming years.
Next up is an artist that’s creating a buzz from the Broward area of Florida that goes by the name of GABRL. Following up his impressive breakout project “Here’s A Mixtape” he’s retuned today to drop a new single with “Take Your Money.” GABRL showcases a brash flow and wordplay over production that uses Desiigner ad-libs and MIA sample by Justin Trax and Tyshane. This is said to be the first single off of GABRL’s forthcoming project which is also titled “Take Your Money.” As GABRL builds momentum towards his next release it should be interesting to see what else he drops.
