Cool Company – Summer Daze (EP)

Based out of Brooklyn, NY, is the duo of Cool Company. Since forming in 2012, vocalist Yannick Hughes (aka Cool Yan) and producer Matt Fishman (aka Fat Matt), have been making feel-good music for the world to enjoy.

The journey began during their high-school choir days (2006). 2012 was the birth of what is now known as Cool Company; the producer/writer combination. Their self-titled debut back in 2013 was a glimpse of what was to come. A unique blend of Rap, R&B, Soul, and Pop would become their distinct outlook. It’s been an interesting journey for the duo since releasing their biggest hit to-date, “Call You Back.” Now we’re here still enjoying the vibes they gave us on ‘Summer Daze.’

Each track represents a different emotion, that is struck hard by either the vocal performance or the production side. We get a song like “Overload” that speaks on the struggles in life and the overwhelming pressure that life presents to us. The duo was able to take a down-and-out theme and turn it into an enjoyable tune. It sticks within the Summer Daze mood and still keeps a genuine effort of sticking to the script.

You won’t find fast-paced songs on this EP. Instead, the vibe is created with summer evenings and nights in mind.

One of their most notable tracks on the extended play is “Howling.” It’s one of the slower tunes here, with guitar strings that pull your emotions up a tiring hill, in the sense of sadness.Now I’m howling at the moon, and it’s all because of you

Matt and Yannick get creative here, sort of forming their own howling voice of a wolf. They do give us a music video for the track as well, helping us understand the song in a visual way.
