We all know and appreciate the impression that the hip-hop culture has across all industries. It’s impact has recently been inspiration for a Virginia Beach Public Library and a new mechanism their using to get people to read more.
This library remixed Sir Mix-a-Lot’s 1992 smash single “Baby Got Back” in a display inside the library.
Contrasting from Mix-a-Lot’s lyrics, “I like big butts and I cannot lie,” the library display read: “I like big books and I cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny.”
Christine Brantley, who is the library’s community relations and development manager, told ABC News that Ash creates various displays to “infuse some fun into the library.”
Brantley understands that these unique displays are created in order to promote the library’s collections and to help people find literature that might not be readily visible on the shelf. In the past, they created a display that honored “Shark Week,” another focusing on “Banned Books Week,” and also made an igloo entirely out of recycled milk cartons.
