Tony Hawk still has the touch going
It’s crazy to believe that 17 years ago yesterday, Tony Hawk landed the trick that became the “apex” of his long-term career. After ten failed attempts, the 1999 X-Games became the showcase history.
Tony Hawk finally landed the spectacular and technical trick on June 27, 1999. The trick is considered one of the most technical tricks in the sport of skateboarding, and there are only a select few that turn their body to that degree of angling.
June 27, 20176, Tony Hawk decides that he wants to attempt to land the trick again. It’s been 17 years since he first landed the trick. Hawk is now 48 years-old and it’s amazing that he can still move around the way he is.
A lot has happened since then in my life. I mean, it’s just been the craziest rollercoaster ride. It really was the apex of my competitive career… so, i’m gonna try a 900 today. Because I feel like I can, and I never thought I’d be doing this at my age… Keep going until the wheels fall off I guess.
After many falls and frustrated outburst, Hawk finally lands the trick that helped propel his career to elite heights. In late August of 1999, Tony Hawk’s first video game ‘Pro Skater’ was released, and was followed up by a number of releases.
