Lyft has done a great job making their services seem fun and worthwhile with the endorsements of stars as undercover drivers. This week, it was the fun loving Shaquille O’Neal who was behind the wheel. Though it may be hard to consider the 7’1 athlete go unnoticeable, the riders had a great reaction when they found out their Lyft driver was the great, Kazaam. While throwing hints throughout their conversations, some were as useful as his free-throw skills.
Throughout the Atlanta streets, Shaq went undercover as a couple of silly characters including a bracelet maker named Charles, a Frenchman named Pierre who just so happens to not speak any French at all, an undercover cop named Goose, and an Afrocentric no name in a dashiki, to name a few. Though his costumes were solid, his voice would seem to be an instant giveaway. It wasn’t until he revealed himself that the Lyft riders were able to air their suspicions.
Of course, the ride concluded with selfies including the retired Laker as do the other episodes of Undercover Lyft. There has been a handful of different episodes of the YouTube series. A couple other stars that got in on tricking their fans include Richard Sherman, Danica Patrick, Jerry Rice, and Kris Bryant.
Clearly this is a clever tactic of Lyft to get more riders on their side from their competition Uber–which is known to be a bit cheaper. Both ridesharing services include the same or similar benefits and accessibilities. However, now if you ride with Lyft you might have the opportunity to ride with a famous athlete with out even knowing it.
