ScHoolboy Q Drops Trailer for ‘Blank Face LP’

ScHoolboy Q lives up to his name by repeatedly teasing his new album Blank Face LP. Q finally dropped the album’s trailer, with a July 8th release date.

The rapper revealed multiple decoy album covers before finally owning up to his pranks. ScHoolboy, we’ll see you after class.

In 2014, ScHoolboy’s debut studio album Oxymoron contradicted expectations by jumping to the top of the Billboard 200. With growing popularity and high hopes for the sophomore album, the 30 second trailer says a lot by saying little.

The LA native’s trailer depicts a character cruisin’ around, accompanied by an as-of-yet unheard song from Blank Face LP. The sharp cutting of images between the car’s journey hint at depicting ScHoolboy’s own memories of growing up in LA.

Between the California backdrop, the scenes of friends hanging out in driveways, and images of police brutality — the themes for the album are clearly laid out.

“Shoot me in my back because my Afro,” raps ScHoolboy in his immediately recognizable and gnarly snarl. It sounds like ScHoolboy’s already bold and dissonant character is about to develop into its full form — by becoming politically charged. Let’s just hope he keeps the bucket hat.

For those of you who can’t wait, the already released “Groovy Tony” and “THat Part” (with a little help from Kanye) can gives us a taste of Blank Face LP.

After his success with “Man of the Year” and “Collard Greens,” there’s no doubt that ScHoolboy is cooking up something good.
