A major hip-hop game changer took place in ATL this weekend. If you haven’t already heard, recently freed Atlanta rapper, Gucci Mane had his first string of performances since being imprisoned.
These events were labeled as welcome home Guwop concerts and Gucci was definitely welcomed home! “Zone Six” came out to give him the warmest reception since T.I’s return from the pen in 2009.
Each of the two venues that Gucci performed at (Mansion Elan and Premier1) were flooded with fans of the Trap God. Pictures and videos in the club don’t do justice to the magnitude of people who came to welcome Gucci back to the community that he has always rode for.
On my way to Guwop’s Saturday performance the traffic was insane! I was literally on the highway stuck for over an hour. But the sheer amount of people who came out to both venues shows the type of respect that Gucci has garnered in his hometown. That same respect I have for the rapper.
When the time came for Gucci to finally perform, it was electric in the building. Guwop gave his fans the performance they had all been waiting for. Of course the Trap God had to pull out his new single “First Day Out Tha Feds”(which is a banger by the way) for the first time live.
However, it was the oldies from his deep catalogue that made the most impact on the crowd. From “Wasted” to “Lemonade,” Guwop was in his element again and it showed. What does this mean for the near future of the Atlanta rap scene? Gucci has a perfect answer for you in his latest verse on G.O.O.D Music’s “Champions,” “Now that Gucci’s home/Its over for you Gucci clones.”
There you have it folks. And this won’t be the last of Gucci’s performances. He has already announced more shows to come:
