Ebro, host of Ebro In The Morning show on Hot 97 has always been a controversial figure within hip-hop and he frequently tells artist’s how he feels about them, even when those feelings are quite harsh (and sometimes unwarranted). The energetic hip-hop duo, Rae Sremmurd were the latest victims of criticism when Ebro claimed that they do not write their own lyrics. He was upset that they were listed so highly on Complex‘s Top 50 albums of the year list, where their SremmLife album was listed at #3. Instead, he pegged allegations of ghostwriting on their long time producer, Mike WiLL Made-It. Since then, Mike Will has made numerous tweets addressing the issue, and Rae Sremmurd spat a freestyle on Tim Westwood for 20 straight minutes to prove their rapping abilities were not to be taken lightly.
In a recent interview with Fader Magazine the duo commented on how the allegations made by Ebro were not only false, but that he “pulled them out of his ass.”
In this interview Rae Sremmurd also discuss writing for Beyonce, the way their music is meant to make people feel good, their starts in music, dealing with their newfound fame (and criticism) and their upcoming project. You can read the full article here.
One great piece of the interview to note is Swae Lee’s reaction to writing the hook for Beyonce‘s “Formation:”
“A couple months later, Mike [WiLL Made-It] tells me that Beyoncé wants it. I couldn’t imagine! I come in the studio and she’s just like, a goddess or something. Just sitting there. This good aura. They played it for me and I’m like, It’s a new Beyoncé. She put her own twist on it. She has so much sauce on that song, it blew me away…She freaked it.”
Look out for more new music from the Sremm Life crew and stay tuned to see how this situation plays out.
