After rumors circulating for years about a follow-up to the 1996 hit movie Space Jam, the sequel is finally starting to come to life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Space Jam 2 is going to see the green light, starring Cleveland Cavaliers forward, LeBron James.
The original film stars the G.O.A.T, Michael Jordan, teaming up with the Looney Tunes to play a game of basketball against the villainous Monstars who are threatening their freedom. The movie grossed $230.4 million worldwide and also featured some of Jordan’s NBA contemporaries such as Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and Muggsy Bogues.
Justin Lin, the director of four movies in the Fast and Furious franchise, will direct James in the sequel to the live action/animated movie. Also according to The Hollywood Reporter, Lin has teamed up with writers, Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello to start working on the script.
Last July, James’ entertainment company signed a deal with Warner Bros., leading to more speculation Space Jam 2, was in the works. As of late, James has been working on his acting skills and even appeared as a supporting actor in the romantic comedy, Trainwreck.
There’s no release date for Space Jam 2 yet, but if you’re a 90’s baby like me, make sure to keep an eye out!
