Columbus, Ohio’s Meg Paulsen was introduced to me by a mutual friend at some point last year, and it’s safe to say I have been a fan since. My fandom was confirmed when I saw her live, because she sounds just like she does on wax. She can actually sing, fam.
Not too long ago, Meg snagged fellow Columbus native and rapidly rising emcee Correy Parks, for her latest single, “I Think They Know”. With Meg handling the production herself — as she’s known to do — she and Correy compliment each other perfectly, as they attempt to explore the phenomenon that is love.
“The meaning behind the song is wondering whether love is an expressly human phenomenon or not. Although we are aware that other species experience emotions in a somewhat similar capacity (e.g. dogs), the idea of human emotions, specifically human love, transcending our own home planet is a wild and exciting notion.”, Meg explains. “I explore this possibility within the limits of my own brand of love, wondering if its strength could serve as an indicator of its existence to extraterrestrial species. However, note that throughout the song I never fully assert that they know, only that I think they know. Human love is a flawed and fearful beast; when it has me completely open and vulnerable I am rendered uncertain.”
Every now and then a song or a project or whatever drops and I’m like “Yo, that’s dope! I’m gonna post it!” Then I get so swamped with all the other stuff I have going on, and I completely forget.
That’s what happened here.
