Drake, who is promoting his album VIEWS, confessed to Beats 1 host, Zane Lowe, that he and Nicki Minaj are no longer on speaking terms. While this may come as disappointment to fans, Drake insists that he still has a lot of love for Minaj: “I don’t really talk to Nicki,” he said. “She’s a person I have a lot of love for. A lot of love and a lot of respect. Not only for our past, and how much work and time we put in, but even just the way she dealt with the situation,” according to Essence. The situation likely refers to Drake’s feud with Minaj’s boyfriend, Meek Mill, which has been ongoing since July 2015.
Since Drake and Meek began their feud, the two released several tracks attacking one another. In one of Drake’s new songs “Hype,” he knocked Meek Mill by bringing up his alleged use of ghostwriters for his songs: “I don’t run out of material/You shouldn’t speak on me period/You try to give your side of the story/They heard it/But they weren’t hearing it.” Interestingly, a source told Hollywood Life that Minaj is really enjoying Drake’s new album: “Nicki’s ear has been all glued to Drake’s album, and she loves it. She couldn’t stop bobbing her head to some of the songs on Views. [She thinks that] Drake’s so talented. Every time he grabs the mic something epic comes out, and she couldn’t be prouder.”
Despite her adoration of Drake, Minaj has decided to put aside her friendship for the sake of her relationship. A source told Hollywood Life: “She had to pick a side and she chose her man’s. Meek and Drake were going at it way too hard dissing one another and she was caught in the middle. She had no choice but to stop talking to Drake. They will always be cool but Nicki is committed to Meek. That’s her man and quite possibly the love of her life.” It is a tough decision putting a relationship before a friendship but Minaj and Meek seem very much committed to each other.
