Malia Obama will be following in her parents, President Barack and First Lady, Michelle Obama’s footsteps. She will be attending Harvard for college in Fall 2017.
The White House announced this early Sunday, May 1st. She’s waiting for her father to leave office before she attends, which explains the year she’ll be taking off for school. It has been talked about for months now about what college she would attend; now she is one of the latest of Presidential children to attend this illustrious university in Cambridge, Mass.
Malia visited dozens of other elite schools including Yale, Brown, Columbia, Princeton, Univ. of Pennsylvania, New York Univ. Standford, Tufts , Berkeley, Barnard and Wesleyan. But made the decision to go with Harvard.
“The President and Mrs. Obama announced today that their daughter Malia will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2017 as a member of the Class of 2021. Malia will take a gap year before beginning school,” the White House said in a statement.
This can be a great opportunity for her to travel and will hopefully yield so much attention from the public eye, due to her father term being over by then. Seems to be smart thinking from Malia and her family to make this decision. A gap before college is also helpful and a popular choice for those who want to have experience outside the classroom.
Malia will be following the footsteps of a few presidential children such as John Quincy Adams’ son, John Adams II; Abraham Lincoln’s son Robert, Caroline Kennedy, daughter of John F. Kennedy; the sons of Fanklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Rooselvelt and also, George W. Bush.
Sidwell Friends School in Washington D.C. is where Malia will be graduating from next month, in June. This high school is also where a good amount of Havard Students have come from.
Congratulations to Malia on her future graduation and future success at Harvard University! May she pass the ultimate legacy of her mother and father.
