In 2014, Iggy Azalea unleased the smash hit “Fancy,” which had the world buzzing about her round-the-clock. The song was played on heavy rotation everywhere; whether you loved it or not. That was then, this is now. Azalea recently announced that her sophomore album, Digital Distortion, will be released via Def Jam Recordings on June 24th. She’s been engaging our attention with her latest single “Team,” but it’s not making big noise compared to the prior summer banger – two years ago. However, there’s a remix out to the single “Team” so feel free to check that out.
In a recent interview with EW.com, the Aussie rapper further discussed the motivation behind this LP and direction it’s headed:
“It’s harder than my debut – more aggressive. It’s a little bit darker and moodier and there’s a bit more of a throwback to some of my older mixtape sounds,” she said. “But it’s got electronic influences used in a rap way. My version of rap is always controversial.”
She definitely went through the wringer trying to put her second studio album together. Clearly not afraid to touch base with her team – the ones who got the ball rolling with the mixtape, D.R.U.G.S., in 2011. During the song selection process, she tossed out several records that didn’t fit the criteria for the upcoming project. Ultimately selecting the ones that did, in order to refresh her sound and close the deal. The “Team” rapper clarifies the overall purpose of this album and message it intends on casting light on:
“This album isn’t about Twitter battles,” she said. It’s about the way other people can distort your character and having the power through technology to do that.”
Hopefully, there won’t be any distractions among listeners when Digital Distortion drops this summer. Expect to hear a love song on this music production as well. Will the world gravitate towards Iggy’s music this time around? Let us know of any thoughts that might cross your mind!
