Just recently, Young Thug dropped a tribute video to his long-lost friend, King Troup who passed due to gun violence in Atlanta, Young Thug’s hometown. This video is captivating due to the fact that Thug brought in some of his closest friends and fiancé, Jerrika Karlae. In this music video, Thug pays homage through the flow of lyrics and thriving beat. As all join in celebration of a new start they reminisce on past memories but indulge in a brighter, memorable future just knowing that his lost friend will remain in thought for days to come.
This video shows a different perspective of rap and its lyrical content. When people first think about “rap” they think of the liquor, weed, guns, dehumanizing references towards women, etc. but Young Thug seems to bring to light a solemn, appreciative approach when it comes to lost loved ones; remembering the past, embracing it in the present and letting it go for future development but also keeping the rememberable past experiences close to your heart.
