Long live Pac!
The late great rapper, Tupac Shakur has been dead for almost 20 years now. Although many believe that he’s alive somewhere hiding out, we’re constantly reminded of his incredible legacy by the things we’ve see come into fruition through his prophetic words in song and interviews.
Pac was a man of many words and it seems that some words he once expressed to a young lady in high school have surfaced. A love letter written by Shakur to his high school crush is being sold for $35,000 on the auction site Moment In Time.
While attending Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, Calif, where he studied Shakespeare. Pac penned a love letter to a woman he was fond of, and nicknamed “Beethoven.” They young lady had an knack for playing the piano, and they met in drama class.
“He was good, I mean really good. When Tupac’s turn came, suddenly you understood what we were reading. He took something as difficult as Shakespeare and gave it such a contemporary voice,” she stated in the letter on the auction site. She also mentioned how they’d become fast friends and “used to sit together and commiserate about our unrequited love.” Sadly, their short-lived romance would come to an halt after he dropped out of high school to pursue his music career. “The second and last time I saw him and I was driving out of Marin City and he was in a car,” she wrote. “He leaned his head out the window and yelled my name as he reached out and waved to me enthusiastically.” Following that, Beethoven mentioned she wasn’t a fan of 2Pac. “I didn’t know that man who tattooed “Thug Life” on his chest and was gunned down on a Las Vegas Street. I never really cared for the music he recorded it was nothing like those freestyles I remember in front of our school. I knew the kid who made me understand Shakespeare and who didn’t care that he dressed different or wore his hair different.”
If you’ve read Tupac’s book of The Rose That Grew from Concrete you’ll see the comparisons in his penmanship in the written letter. The same detail he used, by replacing the letter “I” by drawing out an actual seeing eye is used in the cutesy letter. Along with drawn hearts and the words, “As you will soon find out, I do not spare words, I say what I feel. So if something I say scares you, please don’t panic because I tend to get over emotional.”
