According to label owner and veteran emcee Sage Francis, Strange Famous Records (SFR) has expanded its roster with the addition of Cas One Vs. Figure. The announcement included the duo’s first single, “Murder Media” and the promise of a full length album later this year.
Hailing from the tiny town of Evansville, Indiana, Cas One grew up with longtime collaborator/producer, Figure, so a joint project felt natural. With the fierce combination of Cas One’s rapid fire lyrics and Figure’s EDM savvy, the duo creates a sonic boom of sound that still falls within the fabric of Hip Hop at its purest, one SFR was happy to welcome into the family.
“I’ve been a fan of Cas One’s music for years now and he’s worked with several SFR artists,” Sage says. “I first met him at Prolyphic‘s wedding actually, and it’s there that he mentioned that he was working on something with Figure.”
Home to artists like Buck 65, B. Dolan and Doomtree‘s Cecil Otter, SFR has crafted a solid roster of artists atypical of most contemporary emcees, which isn’t surprising considering the man at the helm isn’t your average emcee either. The spoken word champ is ill with his pen game, painting vivid pictures with his bountiful catalog of words. It gives him an advantage when deciding who to bring on board.
“I factor in a lot of things when signing artists to Strange Famous, some of them intangible, but when he sent me demos for the album that’s pretty much all I needed to hear,” he says. “I wanted to lock that in right away. It also helps to know that he’s a good dude who’s committed to his craft. Although I haven’t met Figure, his production is nasty. Outside of that, he’s been touring heavy to massive crowds for years now and that reliability and consistency speaks for itself.”
“It feels like a dream come true,” Cas One adds. “Strange Famous feels like a home full of people I wanna laugh with and learn from.”
