‘Southside with You’ Trailer Released; Makes Us Love the Obamas More

Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter recount the events of Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date.

As the Obamas wrap up their 8-year tenure in the White House, we find a way to show our appreciation for them.

The appreciation comes in the form of the new romantic-comedy, Southside with You. The film, which originally premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will recount the event of young Barack and Michelle’s first date set in southside Chicago during the summer of 1989.

Unbeknownst to the general public, no one knows the origins of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama‘s relationship. Once this summer rolls around, we’ll be able to see the inspiring true story of their love.

Southside with You stars Tika Sumpter (The Haves and Have Nots) and Parker Sawyers as their real-life counterparts.

The Hollywood Reporter calls the film a “perceptive, intelligent, entirely credible imagining of how these two very bright young lawyers broke the ice during a long afternoon and evening in Chicago in 1989.”

“I wonder if I can write books or hold a position of influence in civil rights,” Sawyer’s Barack says in the trailer.

The trailer which runs about 2 and a half minutes, makes us love the Obamas even more! How could you hate on one of the greatest couples that have shown the entire world what love is supposed to look and feel like?

Singer, John Legend executively produced the film with the backing of his company Get Lifted. Legend shared the film’s trailer on social media last night, and since then, the hype over the Obama-focused rom-com has skyrocketed.
