Milwaukee is steadily becoming a hotbed for talent in hip-hop and rap. The rise of acts such as IshDarr, Wave Chappelle and Webster X has put people on notice of the Brew City’s rap scene. What’s enticing about the Milwaukee hip-hop scene is that there’s no specific soundscape like you’d hear from a Chicago, Atlanta or New York. Yes of course there’s always going to be exceptions to this rules and every emcee is different but as a whole you hear a similar sound coming from those areas.
Milwaukee emcee, Renz Young, is a name that’s been raising some eyebrows cross the rap blogosphere within the past year. Although he only has one project out with his 2975 EP and a handful of singles in “Congratulations: Tres” and “Tie My Hands.” Renz has shown versatility with his lyrical prowess and with his production selection.
Today RESPECT. is proud to premiere his brand new single entitled “Pastures.” “Pastures” which is self-produced by Renz, is a track about him asking God to guide and navigate him through the terrible decisions he’s been making. Young also shines light on the subject of people asking God for things that don’t really matter in life. Production wise, Renz uses heavenly choir samples scattered across rapid hi-hats with a steady baseline.
