Albeit juvenile, who hasn’t used social media to leave crumbs of newfound happiness with a new boo for the old one to find? With his latest single “Ex Girl”, Harlem native, Ran Christian taps into those spiteful yet, gleefully moments many of us have faced. Though the crooner sites classic R&B legends such as Jodeci, Teddy Pendergrass and Stevie Wonder as influencers, listeners can tell off the rip that Christian’s brand of soulful sound is a more contemporary one. With a sultry beat evocative of those found on Trey Songz’s Anticipation mixtapes, the drum machine assisted track compliments the New Yorker’s boastful bravado about happily and confidently (a somewhat pettily) moving on.
While he’s gaining traction in his adult years, don’t let his underground status fool you—Ran Christian (Randy) is seasoned in the industry. At only 15 years old he began singing for the New York Boys Choir, where he got to see the world and shared the stage with renowned artists differentiating from Michael Bolton to Hootie & The Blowfish. Even though “Ex Girl” is a fun track, Ran’s serious passion for singing and songwriting is ever present in his music and the dedication to his craft is palpable in the control he exhibits in his vocals.
