RESPECT. 4/20: 5 Hazy Flicks to Spark Your Brain

Keeping up with our 4/20 theme, RESPECT. has decided to provide you with the 5 best movies to compliment your hazy wednesday. Whether your sparking with your buddies or going solo, here are 5 movies that will enhance your 4/20.

How High (2001)

This stoner cult classic which stars Hip-Hop partners in rhyme Method Man and Redman is one the most obscure comedies to come out in Hip-Hop history. With a plot that includes tearing down a historical statue, smoking dead people, and cheating their way into Harvard, this movie has all of the laughs and blunts to make you feel right at home on Cloud 9.

2. Savages (2012)

One of the more underrated movies released in the last few years, Oliver Stone’s Savages is a brilliant fast paced tale about two friends living in California who just so happen to have grown the most potent strain of weed around, which gains the attention of Salma Hayek and her drug cartel associate Benicio Del Toro. With all the beautiful scenery and weed you could want in a movie combined with the action packed fighting scenes and of course appearances from Blake Lively, this is the perfect action-thriller to get your mind racing and heart pumping.

3. Friday (1995)

Of course there couldn’t be a weed movie playlist without the most blunted classic of all the time. The hardest part about choosing Friday is picking between it and its sequels; Next Friday and Friday After Next. The movie centers around Craig (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker) as they smoke the day away after Craig gets fired from his job. The only problem is the weed they’re smoking doesn’t belong to them, and it isn’t free. Like any stoners in this situation, the faded duo hilariously tries to figure out ways to payback feared drug dealer Big Worm before he comes to collect at sundown. Throw this movie on along with the other two sequels to follow and it’ll make this hazy holiday seem like a Friday night. Just don’t forget about work tomorrow.

4. Pineapple Express (2008)

It only took 20 mins into the movie to know that this Seth Rogen comedy was going to be a bit better than others. Pineapple Express is a movie about Dale Denton (Rogen) and his drug dealer Saul Silver (James Franco) and their escapades to stay alive and out of danger. Denton, a process server, is asked to serve drug kingpin Ted Jones (Gary Cole) subpoena papers when he witnesses a murder and hightails it to Saul’s house. The hijinks and hazy adventures that follow are what make this cult classic a timeless a comedy and one of the most requested sequels in comedy history.

5. Inside Out (2015)

Before you say anything about a Disney movie being included in a weed related movie list, you must first think about the type of mind it takes to make these movies. Any movie that includes fish with short term memory loss and talking toys could not be possibly made with a sober mind. With that being said Inside Out is one of the most fascinating movies in recent years. The film centers around the brain of a young girl named Riley and deals with five key emotions who double as characters in the movie; Joy, Fear, Sadness, Anger, and Disgust. The film is an intriguing look at how the brain works on how each emotion is dependent on each other and without one, the body is completely out of whack. Complimented with trippy scenery and hilarious voiceovers, this movie is a great watch for anybody high or sober.
