Whether it’s from the top of the key and on the bassline, a cold jumpshot will get any baller far in the game. Since the metaphorical sense of the action is easily translated into rap verbiage, District 21 is using his Cali sensibilities to navigate across his new single/video combo with insightful lyricism.
Directed by Derek Pike, in high powered black and white, the song gets a boost in familiarity thanks to Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam” horn sample as D21 calmly asserts his rookie stature into the hall of greatness with lines like, “I took a minute to assess myself/Thinking too hard to overstress myself/I forgot I’m the greatest, I had to check myself/Hov, Ye and yes, myself.”
Watch the fresh Golden State music video for “Jumpshot” up above. By the way, he’s also Mack 10’s son. If you don’t know Mack 10, go do your research young ones. He’s a West Coast legend who is 1/3 of the West Side Connection and is known for selling nearly 11 million records. Mack 10 made his first appearance on Ice Cube’s 1994 release Bootlegs & B-Sides. A little-known fact about Mack 10 is that he was married to T-Boz of TLC for about 4 years in the early 2000’s. Regardless of the family stuff, District 21 is the focus here, enjoy this new video!
