We must give big ups to Rihanna for living at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as ‘Work’ claimed the No.1 spot for nine weeks, but we must give OVO’s PND that same praise for his role in creating the song. It’s no secret that PND was in on the creative process when ‘Work’ being was made. Pictures of them collaborating surfaced social media and Rihanna did credit him for writing the lyrics. But it became evident that he mastermind the track when Keke Palmer released snippets of his reference version of ‘Work’ on her SnapChat. Now his full version is out and it’s nothing less dope! With PND being of Caribbean descent, it doesn’t take anything away from Ri Ri’s version. The sounds are very similar, with island rhythm and harmony very present. PND’s reference track is basically the male version of ‘Work.’ His version also features Drake, but with an altered verse.
On PND’s ‘Work,’ Drake said “You got a lot on your shoulders /Listen to me ’cause I’m older,” rather than “We just need to slow the motion/Don’t give that away to no one,” which appears in Rihanna’s version. Also Drizzy switched up the end of his verse, which is still great because well, it’s Drake. Now that PND made a version that dudes of all walks can be proud of, ‘Work’ gives us guys a reason to jam. (Work, work, work, work, work, work something something something work, work, work, work, work, work.)
