At just 18 years old, Brooklyn native, Desiigner, has earned the top spot over the hit song “Work” by Rihanna with his hit track, “Panda.” This accomplishment is nothing short of amazing especially given the amount of time that he has been in the game. To add a little more respeck to his name, Desiigner is the first American artist to gain the #1 spot in 41 weeks. The G.O.O.D. Music artist is off to a hot start and the summer months are still to come.
So let’s be honest, when many of us heard the song “Panda” for the first time we were confused as to why Future was not credited with the hit. After doing some research we learned about a fresh new artist out of Bedstuy that drew the attention of Kanye West who signed him to G.O.O.D. Music six weeks later. After the song dropped just a few days before Christmas in 2015, there was vast wave of popularity that generated over 35 million streams all over the country according to Billboard. Which isn’t bad for a song with no music video and little promotion. Many attribute the success to the fact that he sounds like Future. Regardless of that, the song itself has been imitated by dozens of artists. Even Lil Kim had to come out of retirement and hopped on the track!
With such popularity and creation of a movement, it is hard to deny Desiiner of all the accolades that come with the song. The only thing left to do now is find some broads in Atlanta.
