This entire situation with Kelly & Michael Live! is getting messy and messier by the day.
After Kelly was allegedly backdoored with the information of Strahan departure form the show, she took a few sick days to recover from the sudden news. That caused a media frenzy with rumors circulating of what really happened and what’s going to happen. As the fate of the show’s new co-host is up in the air. News reports say that Michael’s departure will be in May. “May 13th is his last show,” says a source to PEOPLE. “He’ll take the summer off and GMA can integrate him early before September, and this will give Live! more time to find the co-host. He’s totally fine with that. Now he can enjoy his summer.”
Well that doesn’t sound like a bad idea, if it Michael’s decision. However, ABC later confirmed the news by releasing a statement saying…
“After meeting with the producers of both Live! and Good Morning America, and after speaking with Kelly and Michael, we have decided on a plan that best advantages both shows for the future. To that end, Michael’s last day on Live! will be on Friday, May 13, which not only gives the show the chance to have a nice send-off for him during the May book, but to also immediately begin the on-air search for a new co-host.” The statement continued by saying, “This plan also allows GMA to start integrating Michael into the show more often this summer before his full-time start in September.”
In addition, sources say that ABC executives did indeed apologize to Strahan for placing him in a hostile environment regarding the announcement of his departure. “They admitted that they handled it wrong and put him in a terrible position,” the source says. “The network decided and the show decided that they wanted more time to find the co-host. He’s fine either way.”
Umm hmmm…Do you think Live! pushed Michael out?
