Since its release, Untitled Unmastered has been nothing short of success for Cornrow Kenny himself, aka Kendrick Lamar. Within the past few months, Lamar has dropped jewels from the album on various late night shows such as The Colbert Report and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Yesterday, Lamar stepped outside of the late night show arena and performed “Untitled 7 ” at the #FinalFour pre-show in Houston.
“Untitled 7” earned the unofficial title “Levitate” by his fans due to the song’s infamous hook. The track isn’t exactly radio-friendly but in Lamar’s case, he rarely relies on radio to further his status in the rap game. While each track stands alone, “Untitled 7” is the fiercest track from the 8-song album, which is probably why Lamar performed it. The festival-sized crowd goes insane while the live instrumentation backs up Kendrick’s rapping. Since its March 4 surprise release, Untitled Unmastered has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. Untitled Unmastered gives Lamar his second No. 1 album within less than a year since To Pimp A Butterfly‘s March 16, 2015 release. According to Billboard, Lamar is the third artist since January 2015 to score two No. 1s in under a year. Anything Lamar creates becomes an instant hit.
