When you call yourself a “bad-ass” for a living, it’d be wise for you to back that claim up.
Yesterday, that’s just what emcee Joey Bada$$ did as he ripped a fiery freestyle over some classic West Coast beats. He stopped by Power 106’s The Cruz Show to flex his insane lyrical prowess. Not too many East Coast rappers are brave enough to step up to the plate and rhyme over Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg‘s “Deep Cover” or Westside Connection‘s “Bow Down.” Never one to shy away from a challenge, Joey found his groove when Dre’s “Deep Cover” began to play.
He is fresh off last weekend’s first run of the 2016 Coachella Festival. It was there when he debuted a new song, titled “Devastated.”
Joey recently made headlines in the rap world during his short-lived beef with Troy Ave. However, not too many people know that the “Survival Tactics” emcee also recently turned down a deal with Roc Nation. It was XM Shade 45 DJ Whoo Kid who asked Joey about the deal he politely turned down from Jay.
Joey gave props to Hov for a lot of things, but he says he didn’t want to be signed to Jay. “Damn I don’t want to be signed to this n***a, I wanna be this n***a.’ I kinda had that same perspective,” Bada$$ said. This is highly similar to the deal Jay Z turned down from Russel Simmons. Joey did end on a positive note by saying “but shout out to Jay, man, cause he was on it before a lot of people.”
