20th Century FOX has officially released the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence.
The film– which serves as a follow up to the 1996 box office smash Independence Day starring Will Smith— continues the story line and tells us what’s been happening in the 20 years since the aliens came to Earth.
In this long-awaited sequel, returning stars Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum join newcomers, Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher–who plays the son of Will Smith‘s since-deceased pilot character, Steven Hiller–to fight off a second alien invasion. But just as we’ve had 20 years to prepare-so have they.
Although we have made considerable technological advances, so have the aliens as they return with a vengeance and tools so advance they have their own gravity.
Bill Pullman, now sporting a grizzled beard, is back to again rally the forces, even if he isn’t the president anymore. And of course, Jeff Goldblum‘s David Levinson, who figured out how to stop the aliens last time, is in the thick of things.
As an Earth Day incentive, 20th Century Fox is not only giving fans the ability to purchase Independence Day for $0.99 via Google Play, but also plans to donate all of the proceeds to Earth Day Network.
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters June 2. Check out the trailer below.
