This may be a year of farewells for some of our favorite celebrities.
Last night, Kobe Bryant said goodbye to his 20-year tenure as a Los Angeles Laker. Along with Bryant retiring after a great run was a bittersweet moment for the basketball world, Kevin Hart is also saying goodbye to a huge staple that paved the way for his career in comedy.
As of yesterday, he announced he will no longer be doing stand-up comedy tours. According to Variety, Hart disclosed to the crowd at the Las Vegas’ Cinemacon, “I don’t know if I’m ever going to go out and do it again,” also adding that it was “my last f***ing tour.”
The news of Hart no longer performing stand-up tours is unfortunate for die-hard fans who fell in love after 2011’s Laugh At My Pain or 2013’s Let Me Explain. Let’s not forget his other specials I’m a Grown Little Man and Seriously Funny, respectively from 2009 and 2010. His earlier stand-up tours are hilarious in their own way. However, it was Let Me Explain and Seriously Funny catapulted Hart’s fame and success to a new level.
Hart has nothing left to prove to anyone. He is the most successful comedian of our generation. Perhaps this reason contributes to his decision to leave stand-up tours behind.
Furthermore, it’s fair to consider him the Eddie Murphy of our era. Eddie paved the way for Kevin to do what he is doing now.
There’s no exit stage left without a grand finale. Kevin Hart:What Now? captured his final adieu to stand-up with 156 shows in 112 cities, 13 countries, and five continents.
Catch Kevin Hart:What Now? in theaters this upcoming October.
