North Philly dweller, D.Jones debuts his most recent mixtape entitled The Smoking Section, and we’re glad to premiere it here at RESPECT. The project is all around bonafide and is guaranteed to put you in good vibes. His animated ad-libs alone will draw you to pay attention to what he talks about. They’re pretty hilarious, but the music is solid nonetheless. You’d expect some real gritty, grimy, street music coming out of North Illadelph, Delhi and Dauphin, to be exact. However, in Jonesy’s case, his goal is to create dope, feel-good hip-hop that makes sense to him and relates to his surroundings. The song “I’m Good” alone will give you a perfect understanding to his mission.
Everyone has a gift in life and mine is rap. I’m inspired by greats, only to strive for greatness. I feel like this is how I can change lives. Not just speaking of my own, but the people around me as well.
The Smoking Section was set to release this time, last year, however, the streets got in the way and setbacks occurred. Fortunately for Jonesy, he was able to rise out of that situation and bang out 42 records, 10 of which made the project he shares with us today.
This is a real good vibe, the timing is perfect and this is what the world needs, as far as music coming outta Philly and in general.
We encourage ya’ll to give it a spin below, via soundcloud and don’t forget to let us know if you’re diggin it!
