Bryson Tiller has been doing the kind of numbers upcoming artists only dream of, and as result has earned his very first plaque. Tiller took to IG recently to share the news with fans that his debut album TRAPSOUL is now certified gold (see below). “my first plaque! gold album and a platinum single. thanks to everyone who made it possible!” wrote Tiller on his IG post. As Pen Griffey celebrates his latest milestone, its only a matter of time before he’s celebrating platinum status.
This is incredibly impressive considering the Louisville, Kentucky native had virtually no fan base before the release of his first album back in early September. While most artists usually break into the mainstream with a steady line-up of mixtapes, Tiller’s success is a product of word of mouth and organic rowth surprisingly without a major feature or collaboration on TRAPSOUL. Since then however, Tiller has been riding the wave of a lifetime performing for sold out crowds in increasingly large venues, receiving the key to his city, and receiving co-signs from international superstars, Drake and The Weeknd, who also recently remixed Tiller’s “Rambo.” While it seems like Bryson Tiller and OVO is a match made in heaven, its great to see the decision not to sign with Canada’s most popular hip-hop & R&B label, is paying off in spectacular ways. It’s difficult to assume Tiller would have had the year he did, had he willingly stepped into the shadow of Drake and The Weeknd; a shadow some artists never escape.
While Bryson Tiller continues to be “that guy” popping up all over your timeline, he’s simultaneously climbing the ranks of the music industry as a seemingly unstoppable force. TRAPSOUL is an all-round classic, and should not be slept on. Believe the hype.
