Beyonce’s LEMONADE has given us our first glimpse of the singer speaking out on the issue of infidelity which has surrounded her marriage with Jay Z for years. The album has allowed us to believe that Queen B has finally got a load off of her chest.
As the world weighs-in on the record, we are all trying to figure out the details of B’s relationship. The conspiracy theories about the Carter household are definitely running wild. With lines like, “Better call Becky with the good hair,” on the album, the speculation has been endless about who Becky actually is.
Any talk of Hov’s infidelity all began when the Bajan princess, Rihanna popped onto the scene. Remember The Grammy’s in 2008? You may recall Riri grabbed Jay’s hand excitedly, only for Hov to very obviously pull away as she headed to the stage to accept the award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with “Umbrella.” Rumors of the two having an affair were recently squashed when Rihanna’s former publicist, Jonathan Hay admitted that it was all a hoax to help the star breakthrough with “Pon De Replay.” According to New York Daily News, Hay did address the whole thing with Beyonce, “I apologized to her… this whole thing is very awkward.”
Rihanna wasn’t the only talent from Roc Nation that Jay was rumored to be messing with. Some believe Becky is British singer, Rita Ora. In December 2015, Ora revealed she would be suing Roc Nation. The complaint made on her behalf stated that, “Rita’s relationship with Roc Nation is irrevocably damaged.” So could Beyonce’s songs about cheating be addressing this past affair? The Beyhive turned their focus to Ora when she posted a picture of herself wearing a bikini with lemon prints on social media. This all had people wondering, could Ora be the other woman?
Rachel Roy, who started off as an intern for Rocawear, may have breathed a sigh of relief off of this news. Only a few days ago, Roy posted an Instagram picture with the caption, “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always.” The Beyhive shouted “Becky” and Roy made her IG private. As this unraveled we all thought that Solange’s elevator outburst was beginning to make sense. Rumors have always prevailed that Bey’s sister had always thought that Roy was a little too close to Jay. The fashion designer has since released a statement via People Magazine clearing up her alleged role in Hov’s infidelity, “There is no truth to the rumor.”
The truth is far from clear. You have to question why, although Beyonce has thrown her husband under the bus, Jay is happy to have his “dirty laundry” exclusively on his own streaming service Tidal. Could the infidelity angle have been perfectly strategized for album sales? Hov has previously been the subject of a number of diss tracks from the likes of 50 Cent and Nas, but he’s knowingly accepted the biggest diss record of all from his wife.
Wendy Williams provided a theory not too far from this. She said, “Rachel Roy, first of all, you’re not this fighting girl unless you’re on Jay Z and Beyonce’s payroll,” suggesting that Roy is benefiting from having her name tarnished for the sake of album sales.
So was Beyonce truly sick of all these women? Did Jay Z really cheat? Is Yonce just giving us a strong message that we’ve all been needing? Or is this just pretense to spice up the album and pump up the sales? The unraveling may just have started but there’s no doubt about it, Beyonce is squeezing us hard when it comes to LEMONADE!
