Nowadays, with rappers like Young Thug and Future, it’s pretty common that you’ll get a song with completely inaudible lyrics, but despite that, you still listen, because nine times out of ten, it’s a jam. But there are some rappers you don’t expect gibberish from; especially emcees like Kanye West.
Nearly five years ago, Kanye dropped the blockbuster joint album with JAY Z, called Watch The Throne, and on that album, was a song called “Lift Off”, which featured of course Hov and ‘Ye, but also Beyoncé. It’s safe to say, this was one of the lowlights on the project. Jay said like eight words, and overall, this was a complete waste of a Beyoncé feature. But Kanye West’s verse stood out to me the most, because it was at that moment I realized, that sometimes, Yeezy hops on a track and says absolutely nothing. I’ve hit up all the lyrics websites. I’ve tried all types of decoding methods. Nothing seemed to work. So here we are. I’m going to rewrite his lyrics on “Lift Off”, with what I think he says. And if he didn’t, (which he probably didn’t), oh well.
“Lift off, takin’ my coat off
Showin’ my tattoos, I’m such a showoff (Huh?)
I feed a panda then roll off
I got the whole city they about to go off
How many niggas with’ me up in that Neonnn?
How many people wanna roll a new nahhh?
Like you know knotty nah, you know me by now
Know me, know me by nowwww
Bruh, what?
I also peeped it on his song, “Only One”, which I actually love, minus the parts I can’t understand. He did alright, until he got to the part where he says,
“Ooh, lo, my only one,
Ooh nimba who uh nuh
You got the world ’cause you got love in your hands
And you’re still my chosen one
So can you understand? One day you’ll understand”
You’re absolutely right, Kanye. One day, we will.
But all jokes aside, I get it (I think). Kanye West does this unprecedented thing where he releases songs, although they aren’t finished, which can be evidenced on his latest effort, The Life of Pablo (see “30 Hours”). I guess we can chalk this one up to the evolution of Hip-Hop.
