The Purple Reign continues….
The purple one himself, Prince, has decided to tell it all. Prince has announced that he will be publishing a memoir. The singer is adding author to his resume list. The announcement was made over the weekend during a pop-up performance in New York City. He was playing a 45-minute set of hit songs when he stopped to ask the crowd “You still read books, right?” He stated that the memoir will cover his “First memories up to the Super Bowl,” where he performed the halftime show ten years ago. It’s expected for him to divulge the ins and outs of his legal drama with Warner Bros‘ record label, as well as his massive compilation of unreleased music.
Prince has scored for the film Batman, along with writing and producing his films in the 1980’s Under the Cherry Moon and the cult classic Purple Rain. In the 90’s he released Graffiti Bridge with an accompanied soundtrack. So he’s no stranger when it comes to word use.
“I think it will be one of the great music memoirs,” Esther Newberg of ICM Partners, the talent and literary agency from which Spiegel & Grau acquired the world rights for the book, told the Journal. “Like [Bob] Dylan, he writes his own songs, so of course he will write a wonderful book.”
The Minneapolis singer will be collaborating on the project with the Paris Review’s Dan Piepenbring, and it’s scheduled to be published sometime next year by Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of publishing giant Random House.
As of now there is a title, but said to be a work in progress: The Beautiful Ones, which is the name of one of his songs off the 1984 film, Purple Rain.
