Cleveland rapper Paper Paulk recently dropped his track “Deposit,” featuring Pusha T, which has a place on his 6-track Power EP. The almost four minute, Mally The Martian-produced cut opens with piano keys that evoke somewhat of a menacing feel, similar to what one might hear when watching a horror film. The impact of the sound also has the same outcome as those movies, the keys serves to build anticipation and intensity in hopes that the listeners are ready for what comes next.
In this case, listeners are in for catchy song with some raspy bars. Kick drums and a vocal loop are added into the beat as Paper Paulk makes his first appearance. Paulk hops on first and let’s us know how he’s able to make a deposit in the first place, detailing an understandable hustle. King Push comes next and basically spits bars that reaffirm why he goes such a name. Both of them seem to be right in their element with the way the deliver their words, but Pusha is the one that creates true imagery that makes listeners feel like they witnessed everything he just said first hand. That’s not to say that Paulk’s verse is not strong, it serves a different yet, important purpose–learning what Power Paulk is all about.
