Remember being in the eighth grade and your parents dropped you off at the movie theaters to see 8 Mile, with like 3 of your friends? Ah, 8 Mile totally brings back childhood memories. Okay, this movie is old and nostalgic at its finest. This is a hip-hop movie and this is a hip-hop magazine, so, let’s zero in on this anyway.
In this movie, the struggle is real. 8 mile had everyone in theaters feeling some type of way about Eminem’s character. This story was a rags to more rags story; no riches involved. There was no happy ending for Eminem’s character. Eminem is awesome, but 8 Mile is like watching a slow burn of a cigarette or candle. Understand? This was the ultimate struggle movie. Rabbit, Eminem’s character, is poor. He hates his mom. He gets beat up. His girl cheats on him. The poor guy never catches a break the entire movie. Then, Rabbit chucks his deuces in the air and the credits begin to roll. No sequels. No surprise ending. It fades to black.
Also, what was up with Mekhi Phiffer’s hair? He really had weaved dreadlocks in the movie, why? Was this necessary for the role? He couldn’t have an edge up, some waves, or a fade even? It had to be dreadlocks for some unknown reason. Also, 8 Mile was consistent with spontaneous free style rapping, like some hip-hop musical. Every time someone got upset about something, they started battle rapping to solve their problems. Everyone in the movie could freestyle rap or battle. Why? Honest Trailers took a dig at this movie too. Watch it in all its hilarity. Check it out below.
