Drake scores another W, becoming the second-non-player to nab the cover of SLAM Magazine. The Toronto rapper graces the mag cover with Toronto Raptor All-Star players, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DoRozan. He put the picture posted above on Instagram with the caption.
“Another very important moment in my life to be on the cover of one of my favorite magazines of all time.”
With Drizzy’s role with the Raptors, his highly-anticpated album coming out and with the team on their first-ever 50 win game in franchise (yes, ever) history, I think it’s an appropriate time to make an acceptation and let a rapper pose for the first time magazine, especially one as clean as the 6 God (I know you peep the suit). SLAM Editor-in-Chief, Ben Osborne wrote:
“And why this cover? Why now? If it was as simple as SLAM being the ‘hip-hop basketball magazine,’ a description bestowed on us for years by outsiders (if not us), we would have put a rapper on the cover years ago”. “It had to be the right rapper, which Drake, with his millions of fans, upcoming album and official role as the Raptors Global Ambassador, is. And it had to be the right players, which Kyle and DeMar, fresh off their All-Star spots and still hungry for their first SLAM cover, certainly are. And the right timing. With the upstart Raptors poised to go on the franchise’s deepest Playoff run ever, our Playoff Issue certainly fit that bill.”
Rumors have recently surfaced that Drake’s album, Views From the 6 will be out Saturday (April 2) and after dropping two unreleased tracks yesterday and with this recent mag cover release, it seems as though Drake season may be right under our nose.
Peep behind the scenes of the shoot below.
