Big Sean decided to give back to his fans on his 28th birthday (3/25) with a new single, “Get My S**t Together.” Produced by Tommy Brown & Mr Franks, Sean’s hunger for success is written all over this one. Completed with metaphors and ambitious rhyme-schemes, Sean Don gives us that dark, gritty, and word-play Sean we loved on his 2012 mixtape, Detroit.
Big Sean is the type of artist that doesn’t need standout production to capture the ear of the listener. Instead, he’s able to grab the listener’s attention through his relatable topics, past endeavors and struggle, plus his word play. Tiering all of those things together, we’re mixed into a blend of an enjoyable listen.
“I’m still taking more risk than I do suggestions,” Big Sean said during the second verse. Big Sean has been putting out min-docs of relatable life situations; one of those being Risk. Sean has used risk throughout his entire life and reminds us that this is still the path he travels.
“I woke up early ni**a, I had a dream I died at thirty ni**a/Aw, twenty something doing real life, to make a million dollars, what it feel like?”
Reiterating what was said about Sean’s Detroit project, “Higher” specifically may be the track that syncs well with “Get My S**t Together.” Both give us a glimpse into Sean’s world, catching him still plotting on changing the world and the way we think, all at one time.
Big Sean’s album is coming sometime this year. While a release date isn’t set, this isn’t a bad sound to get the talk going.
