If you were paying attention last fall, you may have caught on to one of the better instrumental efforts to drop in 2015. That would be Brooklyn producer MentPlus’ killer project, Stormy Nights, which is getting a well-deserved push this spring with an extended release boasting additional tracks.
As part of that push, the beatsmith is looking back to one of its strongest cuts with a rad new video for “All My Friends,” which we previously praised for being a slapper that’d make DJ Premier and the late, great J Dilla proud. While that absolutely remains true, it carries a different vibe in these visuals directed by Sucio Smash, who’s also the head of High Water Music, the label that released Stormy Nights.
For his visual take on the track, Sucio follows a pack of skateboarding kids as they make their way through portions of New York. And like “All My Friends” itself, everything moves at a rather rapid pace, speeding through to a conclusion that sets up a continuation. Could this be the beginning of a series of clips wherein MentPlus soundtracks these skaters’ lives? Will that one kid meet up with that girl at a later date?
Clearly, we’ll just have to wait for the next clip to get the answers to those questions. For now, you can watch the “All My Friends” video . Stormy Nights is out now.
