Amid the legion of young rap artists slanging gangsta talk, boasting their charms and flashing their jewelry, up-and-coming rapper Fligh stands out as a reality rapper. After only a couple of decades on the planet, his lyrics paint a bona-fide story born of rough times, bad choices and self-redemption.
Lyrical upstart Fligh, must certainly believe in willing his goals into existence. For an up and coming artist, he ensures he looks the part in every video and Instagram flick. But don’t get it confused, this isn’t a fake-it-till-you-make it scenario. Put aside the the bristling furs and lustrous gold for a moment and you’ll easily recognize the essence of Fligh.
Impressively enough, the emcee utilized a troubled youth rather than simply overcoming one. Several choices landed him a lofty prison stay (for any 16-year old) of 2 and 1/2 years and also provided the stage in which he discovered his affections for the mic during an inmate talent show.
As a more polished artist, he demonstrates a second-nature comfort in his freestyles and the inter-sectionalism of regional sounds only someone from spots as varied as Texas and New York can exude. For his latest track, “Privileged”, Fligh taps into his pernicious past a he unleashes a verbal assault on those who claim to live a life of the streets, partaking in all of the glory but none of the grit. Part of the artists appeal is his trepidation toward simply revering the lifestyle. With resonating lines like “Put a body on a gun and I throw it away/From that I got nightmares that won’t go away,” it’s evident Fligh is unapologetically real.
